## Overview

Arize Phoenix uses OpenTelemetry-based tracing and response or retrieval evaluation to investigate agents. Versioned datasets, experiments and a playground compare models, prompts and retrieval changes; MCP can query instance data. Source is available for self-hosting under the repository’s Elastic License 2.0. Phoenix and the managed Arize AX service are separate deployment choices.
